A light rant on productivity influencers

Theres a productivity mantra I like:

"If you do something twice, automate it"

-python dev

Despite this quote obviously coming from big automation to sell more pythons or whatever this phrase has inspired me to come up with my own.

"If you hear about a productivity concept 5 times and still don't know how to implement it, find the resource all the productivity sloptubers are stealing it from"

-plopymong

It is honestly crazy how often I hear these "self-help slingers" make allusions to Atomic Habits, avoid mentioning it like the plague and then go off and sell their abusively priced course loosely based on its principles.

So why drink the drop of water these productivity gurus provide us when we can go to the well ourselves?

book... what book??? why book????? ever....

If you spent time googling "How 22 take notes.com", you have probably come across the term "Zettelkasten".

If I were to describe my current understanding of the term Zettelkasten I would spit out something like "ok so its like note taking but you can connect notes to other notes kind of like wikipedia.

Am I correct? Fuck if I know! But I do know there is a book. A book where the more honest min/max masters point to as where they learnt about the concept.

A System For Writing by Bob Doto

Learning one skill at a time

I am trying to learn one skill at a time. I would like to set aside some time to intentionally work on one skill.

Recently that skill is "Note Taking".

I figure that learning to take better notes will help me with learning everything else in the future!

Is this a form of procrasination? Maybe!

Do I care? A little bit!

In an earlier blog post I talked about how certain types of practice act as "compound exercises" in that they train multiple skills at once.

Reading this book will help with my reading, my writing, my note taking and my analysis of sketchy productivity youtubers! What a deal!

Public Accountability!

I believe I can finish this book within the next two weeks. There is about 10 chapters and they arent that long. I am not very good at finishing books but I think I can do it!

By the 18th of April I will have finished reading this book!

I'll try to add a little book update section at the end of each upcomming blog post.

Thanks for reading todays plopyflog!! Hope to cau thf ouc mahdsa...
